The future of the urban commute

Urban public transportation such as taxis, buses, and shuttles carries thousands of commuters everyday and soon it will be autonomous.forward-looking cities, transport services, and car manufacturers are road testing (or even operating) robotic driverless passenger vehicles that could revolutionize the public transit system.

Here's some roundup list of autonomous transport

LUTZ Pathfinder Milton Keynes, UK

These self-driving electric pods, designed to transport people at low speeds between the train station and city center, are now undergoing trials.Begun in 2015, the testing is now in manual mode with a trained operator; after this it will proceed to the fully autonomous stage which will culminate with a final demonstration.

Urban Light Transit Pod London, UK

This four-seater pod car system opened in 2011 on a 3.9-kilometer route connecting Heathrow Airport and it's carpark. There are currently 21 pods that can run autonomously or via central control.Airport officials are looking to extend the  system to reach nearby hotels using 400 pods.

WEpod Wageningen, Netherlands

The WEpod, the first self-driving electric shuttle for use on public roads, has been tested, carrying six passengers down a 200 meter stretch of road, if all goes as planned, it will take passengers between the two towns of Wegeningen and Ede in the province of Gelderland.

ParkShuttle Rotherdam, Netherlands

One of the very first autonomous people-mover systems, Parkshuttle uses small shuttles that follow magnetic guide wires laid on the road to carry commuters for short distances.it's been in operation continuously since it was put into use in 2009.

Easymile EZ-10 Helsinki, Finland

In mid september, one of the world's first robotic buses finished it's testing in the actual urban environment of the actual urban environment of Hernesassri district of finland. Finland is an ideal testbed for autonomous car technology because the country's laws do not require vehicles on the road to have a driver.

nuTonomy Singapore

Startup nuTonomy introduced the world's first self-driving taxis last august. The six taxis (which will expand to 12 by year's end) are modified Renault Zoe and Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric models, and are confined during the pilot stage to run within a 2.5 square mile business and residential.

Uber Pittsburgb, pennsylvania, USA

Modified ford fusions comprise the first fleet of uber self-driving taxis launched in a pilot test program,Though the self-driving taxis were initially manned by a driver and an engineer, the car sharing service plans for each of its 1.5 million vehicles worldwide to go driverless in the future.

Olympic Taxis Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, Japan already played it's role as host city for the 2020 Olympics, including field testing thousands of self-driving taxis to transport athletes and visitors. The project, called Robot Taxi, and was supervised by lead company DeNA.

MobileyeGarmany

Mobileye technology scales through a full spectrum of mobility solutions, has built a fully autonomous vehicle which can drive on 11-cameras subsystem alone.simce the acquisition of intel, has experienced vast growth in year-on-year revenue growth of 62%.Over 60M vehicles worldwide with mobileye tech, global markets.

Waymo san francisco USA

Waymo builds a variety of autonomous designed to meet the mobility needs of drivers.Waymo delivers tested and proven self-driving technologies designed to respond quickly and efficiently to environment and user input.

Cruise san francisco USA

Cruise combine self-driving vehicle technology with ride share technology  to provide riders with autonomous transportation options on demand, equipped with clean engineering to reduce fuels emissions.their automotive products are integrated with cutting-edge robotics and AI  technologies.

 Aurora USA

this company aims to deliver the benefits of self-driving quickly, and broadly. They are targeting a wide range of vehicles, delivery services and mobility firms for its technology.with a goal is to enable vehicles to achieve level 4 autonomous drivers.

 Baidu China

This Chinese company is equivalent of Google who is heavily invested in building its own autonomous vehicle technology. The major difference between Waymo and Baidu is that, unlike Waymo, which is focused more on autonomous cars, Baidu is focused on building a commercial autonomous bus service that will run across China.

YandexRussian

Yandex has built its own cab hailing service using autonomous vehicle technology. It has been driven for over 8 million kilometres (5 million miles) and is predicted to become a household name in the Russian landscape within the next five years.

Though the autonomous transportation system has changed daily life more than most innovation aside from the implementation of safety features like airbags and seat-belts, there haven't been many radical or widespread adjustment made overall designs in vehicles. One of most exciting new frontier in transportation is that someday cars may not require drivers at all.self-driving cars once considered science fiction daydream, are now a reality.Driveless vehicle developers aim to ensure that riders enjoy a hands-free experience without compromising on personal safety.though their technology haven't been universally adopted yet, self driving companies have high ambitions.
